Left hander Nick Lodolo will start the weekend series against the Arizona Diamondbacks.
His 2-1 record and 5,91 ERA is on the line.
Lodolo started the season late with a blister on his left index finger, preventing him from spinning his breaking pitches. He made six starts since rejoining the starting rotation on May 8.
He won his last two decisions and was one out short of three quality starts in a row before he allowed four runs in four innings on 10 hits in a 6-5 loss to the St. Louis Cardinals on June 6.
The first round pick from the Reds in the 2019 draft, has one appearance against the Diamondbacks a no decision, quality start on June 6, last season. He pitched six innings, allowing three runs on five hits, including home runs by Ketel Marte and Geraldo Perdomo in a 4-3, 10-inning win by the Reds.
The Reds face left-hander Eduardo Rodriguez who is 5-2 with a 2.52 ERA on the season.
The Reds are 10-5 in games started by left handed pitchers this season.
Rodriguez 33, pitched for the Boston Red Sox and Detroit Tigers until coming to the Diamondbacks as a free agent before the 2024 season.
He made 13 starts this season and Arizona is 9-4 in his starts, five of them quality starts. He pitched seven innings in two starts and 8 1/3 in another. In his last start Rodriguez pitched 6 1/3 innings in a 6-1 loss to the Washington Nationals in which he allowed four runs on a walk and six hits, including two of the seven home runs he's given up this season.
Rodriguez made three starts against the Reds in his career with a 1-1 record and an even 3.00 ERA. His last start against the Reds was on June 6 of last season in Cincinnati against Lodolo. Rodriguez game up two earned runs in six innings on six hits. He gave up a home run to TJ Friedl.
