Dateline: Cincinnati

Reds fans had a feeling of impending doom on May 31 when they saw Elly De La Cruz pull up lame on a ball hit to the wall in right center against the Atlanta Braves

He felt tightness in his right hamstring and left the game. On June 1 an MRI revealed between a one and two grade strain of his right hamstring and was placed on the injured list with a prognosis of two to four weeks.

Terry Francona noted that knowing De La Cruz it would be sooner.

“He is about 90% healed,” Francona said on Friday (061226). “He’s going to work through the weekend. We will put our heads together Sunday to see where we are. We will talk to him. He heals fast and he wants to play so badly but we don’t want to hurt him.”

So far De La Cruz has missed 10 games and the Reds are 2-8 in them. Their offense has been spotty.

He was slashing .280/.346/.509 with a team leading 12 home runs which was passed by Sal Stewart. He has scored 40 runs and driven in 37.

His replacement rookie Edwin Arroyo is hitting .227 in nine games.
