Cueto Bounces Back From Poor Outing

The Reds can't seem to buy a win in Arizona, no matter how much they pay Homer Bailey.

Johnny Cueto had a rough outing against Kansas City on Tuesday when he was tagged for six runs in 2 2/3 innings.

On Sunday against an arguably more potent offense, Cueto pitched four scoreless innings.  He gave up just two hits, one a bloop single to Albert Pujols that shattered the former Cardinal's bat.

The difference was a simple mechanical flaw.

"I was flying open," said Cueto after the game against the Royals. "I was landing in the wrong spot. My pitches were too high."

Cueto went to work with new pitching coach Jeff Pico between starts.

"I did a lot of drills and you could see the results," Cueto said.

Cueto had a friendly exchange with Pujols during the game.  Pujols was very vocal about Cueto kicking Chris Carpenter and Jason LaRue in the 2010 fight between the Reds and Cardinals.

Pujols told Cueto, "You're throwing to many breaking pitches.  Throw me a fastball."

Cueto replied, "I'm working."
