The Reds designated Rece Hinds for assignment on Sunday (051726) to make room on the 40-man roster for PJ Higgins.
On Thursday the Reds announced they acquired right handed pitcher Zach McCambley from the Miami Marlins in exchange for Hinds.
Hinds broke in with the Reds in 2024 and had a torrid first 10 games hitting five home runs, four doubles and a triple in his eight games but struggled in the 43 games since. He left the Reds with a ,172 career average in the big leagues, although he dominated in Triple A.
McCambley from Netcong, NJ is 27 years old. He was the Marlins third pick in the 2020 draft out of Coastal Carolina University. He grew up in Mount Pocano, Pennsylvania.
McCambley pitched in eight games in the Philadelphia Phillies camp after being selected in the Rule V draft but was returned to the Marlins at the end of spring training.
He is with the Triple A Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimp presently. He appeared in 13 games with two starts. He is 1-1 with one save and a 2.36 ERA. McCambley has 32 strikeouts and 17 walks in 26 2/3 innings.
