Chase Petty Gets Another Chance Against Cardinals To Split DH

 https://gofund.me/b67c71781

Dateline: Cincinnati

Chase Petty pitched in his first big league game nearly13 full months ago. It was a nightmare for the 22-year old that he was at the time.

As he is scheduled to do today (052326) Petty starts against the same St. Louis Cardinals team that scorched the young man for nine runs in 2 1/3 innings on seven hits, two of which were home runs and two walks.

Pedro Pages, who hit one of the home runs is in the Cardinals lineup for the second game of the doubleheader caused by rain. The same scenario as last season.

Petty made one more start against the Houston Astros last season and gave up four runs in three innings. He faced St. Louis a second time last season on June 21. He took the loss in the 11th inning giving up a two-out game winning hit that scored the ghost runner.

"I don't think we did him any favors last year," Terry Francona said recently.

Petty made a start against the Chicago Cubs as an emergency starter, pitching 5 2/3 innings on May 4, earlier this month. He allowed three runs on four hits and two walks. He has no record at the Major League level this season with a 4.76 ERA. His lone mistake came on a three-run home run by Seiya Suzuki after his two walks in the game. He retired eight straight batters after the home run.

He has spent the rest of the current season at Louisville before a rain out forced his elevation to the Reds.

On the farm, Petty is currently 2-4 in eight starts with a 6.32 ERA. He fought through a blister. On May 17, Petty allowed seven runs on eight hits to Indianapolis in the first game of a doubleheader.

The Cardinals will go for the sweep with Kyle Leahy who is 5-3 with a 3.92 ERA in nine starts. He has allowed two earned runs on his last three starts, covering 16 1/3 innings. His last start he pitched six innings a career-high, against the Kansas City Royals, allowing a run on five hits and three walks.

Leahy will make his first start against the Reds after eight relief appeances. He has no record and a 6.30 ERA but has one save against Cincinnati.

The Reds will send this lineup at Leahy:
